John was a writer and taught literature and creative writing at the University of Wyoming at that time. At first this book started off slow for me, and it took me awhile to really get into it. It reinforces how inhumane our prison system can be; there has to be a better way. I liked the tension he created before, during and after a prison visit, and about the conflict he felt over things uohn could have done differently as a brother.
